Woohoo for Jason Wu!
I do think that the Americans as a rule are generally “over the top” and the Obama’s inaugural ball was no exception.
Yes Michelle Obama the new “first lady” looked stunning at the ball and it was all down to the amazing Grecian gown she was wearing which looked as though it had been designed for her wedding day!
It was designed by a young 26 year old up and coming US designer who actually sewed the dress all by himself. He lives in New York and launched his line of designer dresses in 2006.
It is said that Wu received a somewhat secretive request from a mysterious “special” customer just after one of his fashion shows back in September. The dress had a fitted bodice, gathered skirts with organza floral appliqués and was studded with Swarovski crystals.
The young designer, Jason Wu was recorded as saying “The dress is soft, feminine but powerful. I wanted to convey all this in a dress.” “I had an idea who it was for, but I did’nt want to think about it!”
It was said Barack Obama was worried before the ball about his ability to dance! He was said to be really worried about treading on his wife's toes. He need not have worried though, it all went to plan they looked the perfect couple with him in a tuxedo plus white tie and Michelle in her full length ivory gown.
When Barack Obama first saw his wife he turned to the cheering crowd and asked “First of all, how good looking is my wife?”
"At Last" was the music they chose for thei.
It seems fitting that Michelle Obama’s dress looked just like a wedding dress and to be truthful they really could not have chosen a better wedding day venue either! Lets just hope that this definately signifies a fresh new start not only for them but for the United States as a whole.
